How it works?

  • The aim of underground containers in the collection of urban solid municipal solid waste. The containers that used to be overground are hidden underground, so rubbish cannot be seen. The container remains hidden under a lid with the same finish as pavement.
  • The system consists of a series of lifting platforms which are kept inside a concrete pit covered by a lid, so the top bin is the only visible element of the equipment. The result is a nice and discrete look, integrated in the surroundings.

Anatomy of Underground Containers

Standard capacity underground containers consist of a container island located over one of the three underground systems available: Side, Back or Clip.

These systems are compatible with the current waste collection systems. Traditional overground containers are placed underground, which are raised to the street level to be emptied as any other conventional container.

Main values:

  • RUBISH CANNOT BE SEEN

This system avoids the visual impact of containers and rubbish on the street. It conceals the containers which are normally placed aboveground, achieving open and traversable spaces. Each container is replaced by a top bin.

  • DIGNIFICATION OF THE AREA

It dignifies the urban area, which can be used for other purposed more suitable for city centres (such as restaurants, squares, terraces…) and reduces the visible urban furniture.

  • A BETTER ACCESIBILITY

It makes waste disposal easier for citizens. Everybody can use the system: children, the elderly, the disabled, etc.

  • A BETTER HYGIENE

It prevents access to waste by non authorized people and also the scattering of waste by animals.
